The Ducati Monster 696 continues the iconic model line dating back to the original Ducati Monster from the early '90's. Weighing in at just over 350 lbs, the Monster 696 is incredibly lightweight, thanks to its advanced desmodue engine and trellis frame. While the pricing for the Monster 696 is the lowest throughout the Ducati lineup, the Monster 696 has not been shortchanged in its components. The front end features radial mounted Brembo 4-piston calipers gripping 320mm rotors, mounted on 43mm USD Showa forks. The rear end employs a Brembo 2 piston caliper on a 245mm rotor for stopping power. Geometry is set to a 24-deg rake, providing a nimble, but stable ride.
The Monster 696 is powered by an 80-hp, 50.6 lb-ft two valve, desmodromic engine. The all new 'desmodue' engine, uses an 88mm bore, with a short 57.2mm stroke providing an easy-revving, lively motor character. The engine features lightweight Vacural cases, 45mm Siemens-controlled throttle bodies, and dual aluminum mufflers. The Desmodue's user-friendliness is enhanced with a lightweight APTC wet slipper-like clutch to control the Monster's 6-speed gearbox. Additionally, all braking and clutch components are hydraulically activated, giving enhanced feel to the rider while maintaining an easy lever pull.
Ergonomics are well suited for city riding and commuting. The biposto seat has a removable cowl to accommodate passengers, and the upright bars are positioned to maximize comfort. The Monster 696 features the lowest seat height of the Ducati lineup, which emphasizes rider comfort and inspires confidence. The Monster 696's digital instrument panel can display: Speedometer, rev counter, clock, scheduled maintenance warning, oil temperature, trip fuel, air temperature, lap time, warning light for low oil pressure, fuel level, fuel reserve, neutral, turn signals, over-rev, immobilizer. The 696's digital system is ready for Ducati Data Analyzer (DDA) system.
Like the Monster 796 and 1100, the Monster 696 is available with ABS and is compatible with all Monster ART and Colour Therapy body kits.
